Let's talk about interactions with wildlife. Moments shared with wildlife can be exhilarating but we have a responsibility to respect animals in their natural environment. I noticed this little mountain goat at the end of a trip perched upon a pock spire about 200 feet away. This area sees a high frequency of mountain goats and hikers and they seem to get along quite well. I slowly walked over to an adjacent ridge, sat down and allowed the goat to get used to me. Then, I took pictures from that spot which allowed safety for myself and the goat. We have been shown images of wildlife for a long time and people naturally want to interact with animals but often forget a major tenet. They are wild! Has the vision of nature that we have been fed through media disrupted wildlife too much? I've seen videos of people walking right up to bears, moose, bison, and rutting elk because they have been fed images where animals are docile and harmless, which is so far from the truth. A moose could stomp you to death if it feels threatened. There are no fences or cages to keep you safe. So next time you encounter wildlife think about them first. If you have respect, give them space, and don't get too close you could have a truly incredible experience that forms a deeper connection with our world. #environmentalscience

Our friend @scarlettart18 made this amazing fish out of plastic bottle and pvc. Check out her bio for more information. Did you know that every fish in our ocean has consumed in some form plastic, meaning if you have ever eaten fish, the plastic is inside you as well. Scientists are exactly aware at the moment of the plastic impact on our organism. #environmentalscience

Isn’t it funny how it’s only “trendy” to search for climate change as summer approaches in California? As if Climate Change only means HOT and when it starts getting warmer that’s when everyone seems to care? Or is it just because the Holidays are all consuming of everyone? Just an observation-feel free to tell me what you think about the chart. #environmentalscience

Before transferring to WCSU, Jordon McAlpine had been told that the faculty are caring and they try to bring the best out of their students. He agrees. “The entire Biological and Environmental Science Department helped me graduate. The professors in the department have open door policies where they are eager to help you in any way. Whether that be school-related or if you just want to talk about life, they are happy to listen.” #environmentalscience
