Ce for a Master's Degree, Stayed for the Cheese! 😁 ________________ Today was the orientation day for my MPH progr. This is kind of a big deal for me, as it's been a long road here. The progr is an accelerated cohort with a 16 months duration. That means I will graduate in December 2020. I got to meet some of my fellow peers and learn a little about what motivates them and what their research interest are. I so excited to collaborate with such azing students, professionals, and faculty during my time in this progr. _____________ One thing I shared with some peers today was how during my time working in dental offices, hospitals, and physical therapy clinics over the years, a big trend I saw was a lack of health education and promotion, many health disparities, and the prevalence of preventable diseases. I also saw how some providers had the opportunity to make a big difference in their patient's lives, but missed it. ______________ I chose to pursue an MPH prior to entering PA school so that I can be better equipt to serve my community and my patients by proving access to health education, reduce health disparities, and avoid prentable diseases. ____________ Can't wait to see what knowledge I gain and what thesis or capstone I shall embark in. p.s. they served goat cheese: fav! . . _____________ degree

It takes a village to raise a child. That’s an old saying that few know. We planned and threw a party for the kids in our village. Special thanks to everyone that helped made this possible. My heart is full ❤️. Fun fact: So I added a lot of pepper to the stew I made (as the Nigerian in me 😭) the kids were like saying too much chilli 😂😂😂 but other than that, everything else went really well. I’m so thankful that we executed this party 🎉 🇺🇬🎉💙💙💙💙💚💚💚 . . . 🌍 #MPHdegree

•MPH Decision• I decided to pursue my master's degree right after completing my undergrad because I wanted to learn more about public health, specifically health education and health promotion. I took an epidemiology course and a health promotion course while in my senior year of college, and saw the value that an MPH could have on my future career as a provider. I live in a community where there are many uninsured patients and a high prevalence of preventable diseases. I seek to become a PA that serves my local community, and I very interested in primary care and population health. Because I seek not just to improve the health of one individual, but rather a community, for me, receiving my MPH would equip me with the skills required to tackle behavior change, research, and progr implementations. I only applied to two MPH progrs and was accepted into both. I searched for a progr that allowed me to serve my local community, was hybrid or online so I could still work, was in California, and that did not require the GRE because I had limited time. I applied to CSUSM because it is the school I did my undergrad at and USFCA because it is very established and has an excellent MPH progr. __________ The CSUSM progr I applied to is hybrid, meaning I only go to class twice a week in the evenings, and the rest of the course is done online. USFCA’s progr I applied for was completely online (because I did not want to move to San Francisco). _________ GO COUGARS!!! I chose to continue to be a cougar at CSUSM. Not only I alum from there, but the progr has a new state of the art building, very diverse and educated professors, the commute is minimal, I get to engage in person with my peers and mentors, I able to do my internship in my local community, the tuition was half that of USFCA, and the progr is only 16 months, meaning I will graduate in December 2020! _________ I excited to continue my education @csusm and become a Public Health professional in my community as well as learn and practice many health education in health promotion concepts that will be valuable when I become a PA in the future. ______

Today’s program was focused on Family Planning. Children were given multivitamins and deworming tablets. Women were given contraception options and educated on the importance of family planning. Few men were involved, the goal is to get as many involved as possible. Highlight of the Day: last video of the children singing. 🙏🏿♥️ . . . 🌍 #MPHdegree
