Happy and here’s to AMAZING @orangutanveterinaryaid 🧡 Founded by vet Nigel and his wife Sara, this brilliant, zero salary charity provides equipment, medicines and practical veterinary assistance to orangutan rescue groups in Indonesia and Malaysia. They offer training, volunteer themselves and have established a scholarship fund so Indonesian vets can come to the UK to increase their skills, alongside doing a huge amount to raise awareness of the devastating effects of deforestation on orangutans and countless other wildlife species 🧡 You can buy some of my orangutan-y things from their online shop and help support their work at the same time! . Also, here’s to just following your heart and thinking “I really like orangutans, I’m just going to make a pattern with them and ignore all the trend forecasts Not on the High Street and Etsy send me” - this turned out to be a very good idea. . (I nearly missed Orangutan Day because, despite writing that whole post about how I’d cracked this whole work/life balance thing this morning, I’m currently eating my tea at my desk with bits of paper embedded in my elbows). . . . #redape #redape

Today is International Orangutan Day! Below we see a mother and her juvenile playing in the rainforest, but mom is also teaching important life skills at the same time. We love seeing orangutans thriving in their natural habitat where they belong. Sadly, due to habitat destruction orangutans have less than 80% of their forest left. This is why OFIC is committed to saving both orangutans and their rainforest. #redape

HAPPY International Orangutan Day! 🍃 Especially to the NGOs working tirelessly to help save orangutans and conserve rainforests. 🍃 POFCAP is a non profit organization and every Certified Palm Oil Free Trademark issued to approved products benefits and supports our wonderful partner organisations doing great things for orangutans, wildlife and rainforests. 💚🙏🏻 . . . . #redape

This destruction is heartbreaking 💔• @orangutan_foundation Orangutan mother and infant rescued from tiny fragment of forest this International Orangutan Day with gun pellets found in their skin. While people around the world celebrate a day dedicated to the red ape, our team are recuperating after a busy week spent rescuing orangutans. With two instances in two days, the most recent case saw a mother and infant stranded in a small cluster of trees, entirely surrounded by oil-palm plantations. In challenging windy conditions, our team worked tirelessly to carefully dart and bring the orangutans down to safety. After examination, our vet discovered 7 pellets in the mother’s skin which would have been fired at the pair from an air rifle. Fortunately 5 of the pellets were removed by the team, however a further 2 were too embedded in the skin to be safety extracted. The hope is that once the pair have recovered from their rescue, they are able to be relocated to the safe haven of the Lamandau Wildlife Reserve, Indonesian Boreno; an area protected by Orangutan Foundation. Today may be , but all year round, habitat loss and human/wildlife conflict continue to be the most damaging threats to orangutans in the wild. the reddish-brown color of the #RedApe is a result of sunlight reflecting off their hair☀️? They appear much more red/vibrant in the sun, but in the shade their darker skin tones absorb more of the light and appear more prominent. 😎

repost via @instarepost20 from @international_animal_rescue We have seen orangutans locked up, chained up, beaten, starved and abused. Our rescue teams have witnessed unimaginable horrors, suffering and cruelty beyond belief. This International Orangutan Day, please help us to end the suffering and protect the species before it is too late. LINK IN BIO! #redape
