On June 21, 2019, the BLM announced the release of the Draft Eastern Colorado Resource Management Plan & Environmental Impact Statement. This began a 90-day public comment period, which will end on September 20, 2019. The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office is seeking public comment on a draft management plan for 658,000 acres of public lands in Eastern Colorado, including land along the Arkansas River. This plan would update the 1986 Resource Management Plan (RMP) for land management for the next 20 years. The planning area encompasses about 35 million acres of land, including more than 658,000 acres of BLM-administer-ed surface lands, and more than 3.3 million acres of administered mineral estate under. The area includes 37 counties, from just west of the Front Range to the eastern Colorado border, and from the Wyoming/Nebraska border on the north to the New Mexico/Oklahoma on the south. The proposed plan would triple climate pollution from public lands drilling and fracking in the coming decades. In a time when we should be reducing our fossil fuel consumption, increased drilling is the wrong direction. Make a comment and tell the BLM that this plan is dangerous because it expands oil and gas development on eastern Colorado’s public lands. The plan also undermines Colorado's new climate law by proposing sharp increases in climate pollution. Not only do we need to stop expanding fossil fuel leasing but we need to actively protect wildlife habitat. . . . . . . . . . . conservation #conservationphotography

I’ve been DYING to share this shot of LG for days but had to give the grid some time to even out before slamming you with this less than blue photo. I’m so proud of the color on this one and want to note that it was taken on a GoPro hero 5 black at a WIDE angle...⠀ ⠀ LG and I could have literally heads we were so close. I was just casually trying to convince her that I’m more turtle than she thought and it seemed to have worked.⠀ ⠀ Also, your friendly neighborhood mermaid has made up her mind and decided it’s time to learn how to surf. Longboard, here I come! 🏄‍♀️

1 of 2 photos from Nick Brandt’s This Empty World available in small print size: signed, numbered limited edition of 50. 12x14 inches / 30 x 35 cm, price: $1200, and comes with a signed copy of the book. . Photo is CONSTRUCTION SITE WITH JACKAL (SWIPE for Photo Detail). . After weeks of waiting, the jackal came down into the trench and was photographed first. After that, with the camera fixed in place, we took one of the constructed plinths from the Bridge Construction set, placed it in shot and re-photographed the frame. The final print is a composite of the two elements. . .. ‘This Empty World’ addresses the escalating destruction of the natural world at the hands of humans, showing a world where, overwhelmed by runaway development, there is no longer space for animals to survive. . "Extraordinary work...This Empty World is a truly smart way of raising awareness, for it forces us to rethink our expectations, our take on photography, and ultimately, the destruction of our planet." — F-Stop Magazine . The limited edition prints are available online from @photoeyebooks at https://www.photoeye.com/bookstore/citation.cfm?catalog=TH078 #conservationphotography

Little Blue Heron Egretta caerulea Little Blue Herons may gain a survival advantage by wearing white during their first year of life. Immature birds are likelier than their blue elders to be tolerated by Snowy Egrets—and in the egrets’ company, they catch more fish. Mingling in mixed-species flocks of white herons, immature Little Blue Herons probably also acquire extra protection against predators. #conservationphotography
