@gotoplessofficial A women's bathing suit top is a mini burqa, a piece of cloth imposed in public and, like the full burqa, it is forced on women ONLY. Even in our Western society, we continue to carry a remnant of a rather primitive sexist past.

If you answered “yes”, go stream my song A$AP Rocky! You can read more on my blog, but the short of it is I’ll be donating all the streaming proceeds from this tune to @raicestexas until A$AP Rocky and his two friends are released from Swedish prison. While there doesn’t seem to be much we can do to help A$AP from here (that @kimkardashian isn’t already doing) we can practice what we preach about human rights in our own country in the meantime. Maybe take the kids out of cages??? Let’s do it. Get to streaming! ((link in bio))

Human Rights Watch

Basra, Iraq

Iraqi authorities have failed to ensure for almost 30 years that Basra residents have sufficient safe drinking water, resulting in on-going health concerns. The situation culminated in an acute water crisis that sent at least 118,000 people to hospital in 2018 and led to violent protests. And Basra will continue to face acute water shortages and pollution crises in the coming years, with serious consequences, if the government doesn’t invest now in targeted, long-term, and badly needed improvements. Authorities turn a blind eye to activities that pollute Basra’s water resources. By reviewing satellite imagery, Human Rights Watch discovered two likely oil spills affecting the Shatt al-Arab in central Basra during 2018, as well as two pipelines periodically releasing what appears to be large volumes of waste into the water. Access to safe drinking water is not only essential to our survival, but it is a fundamental right for everyone. While solving Basra’s water crisis will take serious planning, time, and money, it is possible to address so long as authorities take their responsibilities seriously. The alternative is deadly. #humanrights

“For much of my life, I knew little of my Lakota background. My grandma on my mom’s side was a strong Catholic. So I was brought up with that, and I knew very little about Sundance, I knew very little about the sweat lodge, the iníkaǧA. I knew very little about our Lakota language. That is one of the bases of being Lakota: knowing how to talk and how to feel with everything. But I knew very little. One of the things I did know was that we used to run. I’ve been running since I was seven years old. Before settlers came, we didn’t have any horses. When we had to send messages to other tribes within our nation, we had to run there. Sometimes we would run for days or weeks and sometimes months. We moved with the buffalo, so we were always moving camp. We knew where our relatives would be, so that’s the direction that we would run. I got involved with the Standing Rock protests through running. I saw a flier to run through indigenous territories all along the Missouri River, from Canon Ball, North Dakota to Omaha, Nebraska, which is the Army Corp of Engineers’ headquarters for our region. The run was to bring awareness to people across America, to the people downstream of the Missouri River, about the Dakota Access Pipeline. We wanted to bring awareness that the pipeline was going to go underneath the Missouri River, not even a mile or half a mile from, but right to the border of Standing Rock.” - @4grassrope4

Excelente Lunes a todes feministas!!! #humanrights
